Sustainability
GREEN KEY Certification
Golden Resort has been awarded the Green Key environmental certification for its accommodation services since 2020. Green Key is a prestigious international eco-label granted to hotels committed to reducing their environmental impact. This includes optimizing water and energy usage, minimizing waste, and implementing effective recycling practices. Certified establishments offer travelers the opportunity to make environmentally conscious choices and reduce their carbon footprint.
We are dedicated to adhering to Green Key’s environmental criteria and respecting nature, ensuring that future generations can enjoy the delights of Tahko responsibly and sustainably throughout the year.
Waste Sorting and Recycling
Proper waste sorting and recycling help preserve nature. We strive to make sorting as easy as possible for you: each accommodation unit provides sorting instructions and information on the locations of recycling points. By correctly sorting waste, it can be effectively utilized as energy or other materials.
Carbon-Neutral Waste Management
We utilize the Carbon-Neutral Waste Management service provided by our partner, Lassila & Tikanoja. This means that the carbon footprint of our waste management is measured, and emissions are offset through reforestation projects certified by the Gold Standard.
Energy and Water Conservation
Between 10–20% of the energy needs of Golden Resort’s main building are met by solar panels, and the rest of our electricity is locally produced. We aim to reduce our energy consumption by using LED lights and energy-saving bulbs, always choosing environmentally friendly options when replacing lamps. We employ the Fiksuvesi system and water flow restrictors to conserve water without compromising comfort.
Electric Mobility
Maintenance trips between our properties are conducted using an electric vehicle.
Electric Vehicle Charging
The Golden Resort area features eight 22kW charging stations for electric vehicles, operated by Virta.
Eco-Friendly Products
Our cleaning practices utilize ecological products and methods that ensure cleanliness while caring for the environment. We have largely transitioned from paper hand towels to more sustainable, reusable cotton towels. In our offices, we use eco-labeled paper and have significantly reduced our paper consumption.

RESPONSIBLE GOLDEN RESORT
At Golden Resort, we are committed to responsible business practices. We make environmentally positive choices and decisions in all areas of our operations. Our goal is to provide our guests with travel experiences that bring joy and can be enjoyed with a clear conscience. We actively raise awareness of our responsible approach among both staff and guests and continuously develop our operations towards greater sustainability in cooperation with employees, customers, and partners.
In our accommodations, we clearly communicate recycling practices. We do not provide interim or daily cleaning or towel changes; cleaning is performed only after the guest’s stay has ended.
In summer 2022, we installed air-source heat pumps in all villas and semi-detached units, which significantly reduce our CO₂ emissions. Additionally, eight new electric vehicle charging stations are available in our parking area for guest use.
The main building of Golden Resort, which includes the restaurant, meeting, and office spaces, is equipped with a solar panel system that supplies carbon-neutral electricity to support our environmentally friendly energy solutions.
We reduce water consumption by monitoring usage and taking action to reduce it—for example, by limiting lawn watering and extending the use cycle of bed linens and towels.
We are committed to waste sorting and waste reduction. Our accommodations provide clear sorting instructions, and the process is designed to be easy. Our staff is regularly reminded of the importance of proper recycling, and to minimize food waste, we use portion sizes that help prevent excess.
One of Tahko’s key attractions is its pristine Finnish lake nature. Our area offers excellent opportunities to enjoy Savonian nature in a sustainable way. Beautiful hiking trails are located nearby and are continuously being developed in cooperation with the local village association. We also prioritize accessibility to ensure that as many people as possible can enjoy the outdoors. Tahko’s cycling routes are another environmentally respectful way to explore the area, and electric bikes are available so people of all fitness levels can ride the trails. In the summer, stand-up paddleboards (SUPs) are popular, and winter brings extensive cross-country skiing options, snowshoeing, and sustainably operated ski slopes, where artificial snow is made using water from Lake Syväri located below the slopes.
We aim to provide a safe working environment and proactively prepare for potential risks. For example, we improve our data security expertise through training and by staying updated on laws and regulations. We are committed to equal treatment of our employees and stand firmly against all forms of commercial, sexual, or other exploitation and harassment—especially of children, teenagers, women, minorities, or other vulnerable groups. We do not cooperate with any party that is even remotely considered socially irresponsible.
While the minimum requirement is to comply with laws and regulations, we already operate in many areas of sustainable development using voluntary practices that go beyond legal obligations. PNT Active Oy is committed to developing tourism in a more environmentally sustainable direction, supported by our skilled and motivated staff and active customers.
